Relief Fund to Aid Striking FairPoint Workers in Northern New England

Some 2,000 telecommunications workers are currently on strike against FairPoint Communications in northern New England. We are members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Communications Workers of America (CWA), and many of us have been installing, repairing, and expanding phone and Internet service in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont for decades.

FairPoint is New England’s largest telecom provider. The company is owned by Wall Street hedge funds determined to destroy solid, middle-class jobs in New England by outsourcing them to cheaper, less-experienced contract workers. In August, FairPoint walked away from the bargaining table and refused to negotiate a contract in good faith, leaving us no choice but to strike so that our voices can be heard. We simply believe that a hard day’s work deserves a living wage.
