Bargaining is in full swing now for FairPoint Telcom workers whose contract expires on Monday, April 4. In a petition signed and delivered this week, members called on Executive Vice President Peter Nixon to reach an agreement that includes affordable healthcare and reasonable wage increases.
Unfortunately, the company has already rejected several of the bargaining team’s proposals and offered a few counter proposals they deemed downright insulting.
The company rejected the team’s proposal to join the NECA Family Medical Care Plan, a much better plan than currently available and one that employees in NNE and Northland participate in. FairPoint also rejected a proposal to give retirees an annual stipend to offset health care costs.
All workers at FairPoint Telcom are unified in wanting respect and fairness from the company. And we are willing to fight for both. We hope to continue a positive relationship with FairPoint management, and we will mobilize for an agreement that will benefit the company and our working families.
